Interactive Installation

Squat Toilet, Loudspeaker, Microphone, Amplifier and Wall

Shanghai 2010

  • DESCRIPTION

The work can be installed onto a read-made or new-built wall, with minimal thickness of 40cm. A label-less squat toilet installed unconventionally and vertically onto the wall at the height about to the waist. Inside the duct, hidden a mic connected to the amplifier and a loudspeaker on the other side of the wall, from where you can hear the sound that collected from the "ear".

Monalisa Smileless, an interactive installation designated to: A: a demo to the modern society with constant dilemma of being one of the two genders. B: questioning the existence of a collective privacy2 among the female.

The title comes from a Chinese band of the squat toilet, and it's merely a coincidence to Marcel Duchamp's L.H.O.O.Q. (1919) and Fountain (1917).
